Judy's Fusion is a showcase for the artwork of Yuma artist Judy Phillips. Judy's media of choice is kiln fired glass! Kiln fired glass, or warm glass as it is also known, is typically fired in an electric kiln at 1300-1500 degrees of temperature! The result is a deeply textured glass surface with amazing optical and tactile qualities. All steps of this process are performed by hand.

About Judy's Fusion

Judy Phillips

After years of exploring glass through stained glass applications, I found a new love, fusing glass. I enjoy taking my glass skills to a new level. Using kilns, I can now combine layers of glass to become one with out the use of metals to join them, as in stained glass panels. The use of the extreme heat-- 1465 degrees-- makes the glass molten. This avenue has opened up a new world of shapes and colors for me to explore. Each time I open my kiln I am very excited to see the results of my ideas. I work out of my home studio daily to create pieces inspired by nature. Each piece is unique.

Looseleaf by Judy Phillips

"I find working with glass meditative, almost therapeutic. I can leave the world behind, and focus... The simplicity of form, the drama of rich, intense colour, the joy of challenge, and the challenge of endurance... The piece, when it is over, is not what is made, but how it is made".....andrew kuntz
